| Gingrich Foundation Recognizes The Mount Vernon Ladies' Association |
(Thu, 02 Feb 2012)
|
WASHINGTON, D.C., Feb. 2, 2012 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- The Gingrich Foundation has recognized the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association as its February Charity of the Month. The Mount Vernon Ladies' Association cares for one of our country's most important historic sites - the home and estate of our first president, George Washington.
Founded in 1853 by Ann Pamela Cunningham, the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association is the oldest national historic preservation organization in the United States. Under Ms. Cunningham's leadership, the Association sought to raise $200,000 in a national appeal to save Washington's home. Five years later, the Association purchased Mount Vernon from Washington's great-grandnephew and began to restore it. In 1860, the Association finally opened the estate to the public, and it has remained open as a monument to President Washington ever since.
Today, approximately one million people visit Mount Vernon each year. The mansion, now restored with many of its original furnishings, is open for tours. Guests are free to roam the gardens and grounds, where a variety of original buildings still stand. At the pioneer farm site, as well as at the working blacksmith shop, distillery, and gristmill, visitors to Mount Vernon can get a better sense of Washington's life as a farmer by seeing important components of his estate operating much as they were when Washington died in 1799. On a hillside overlooking the Potomac, President Washington is buried with his wife Martha and several other family members.
"We appreciate very much that the Gingrich Foundation has set an example for others to follow," said James C. Rees, president of the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association. "Because we don't receive any government support, we depend upon the generosity of a wide range of patriotic Americans."
"The Mount Vernon Ladies' Association has preserved one of America's historical treasures for more than 150 years," said Callista Gingrich, president of the Gingrich Foundation. "The Association's work has helped generations of Americans better understand the Father of Our Country."
The Mount Vernon Ladies Association cares for President Washington's home and estate without the use of public funds.
The Gingrich Foundation is a domestic non-profit corporation founded by Callista and Newt Gingrich to support charitable purposes.

| TAX TIP: Get Long-Term Care Insurance NOW to Qualify for Deduction Next Year |
(Wed, 25 Jan 2012)
|
KIRKLAND, Wash., Jan. 26, 2012 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Long-term care insurance is subsidized, in effect, by Uncle Sam. "For many people, a large part of their premium cost is deductible on their federal tax return," says Denise Gott, National Sales Manager and Chairman of the Board of LTC Financial Partners, LLC (LTCFP). "That doesn't make coverage free, but it makes it more affordable for millions." LTCFP is one of the nation's largest and most experienced agencies specializing in long-term care insurance.
If you don't have LTC insurance, the time to get it is now, when the tax advantage is fresh in your mind, Gott advises. "Then remember to make your claim at tax time next year, and remember to do that again and again, year after year for as long as you pay premiums."
Deduction limits for the 2011 tax year range from $340 to $4,240, depending on age. For the 2012 tax year, the deduction limits range from $350 to $4,370; and they tend to increase every year. "Over the lifetime of many policies, cumulative deduction claims can really mount up, from a few thousand to more than $100,000 in some cases," Gott says.
Many states offer additional incentives for owning long-term care insurance. These usually take the form of state tax deductions or rebates. "LTC protection becomes even more of bargain with this nice double dip," says Gott.
LTCFP does not offer tax advice but teams with accountants and other tax experts to help their clients get all the deductions or other benefits available to them.

| Rangers Fans Attacked in Philly to Be Treated to Special Game with Players |
(Tue, 17 Jan 2012)
|
WALL, N.J., Jan. 17, 2012 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Two NY Rangers fans who were attacked and beaten outside a Philadelphia eatery on January 2, 2012, after the Rangers vs. Flyers match up are about to receive the star treatment thanks to a business owner with ties to former team members. Peter Grandich, founder of Trinity Financial Sports & Entertainment Management Co., LLC, will host the two men, Neal Auricchio Jr. and Michael Janocko at the February 12th Rangers game. Grandich will treat the pair to a private suite that they will share with former Rangers Nick Fotiu and Ron Greschner.
"Former Ranger and Trinity Financial board members Nick Fotiu and Ron Greschner both contacted me shortly after the beating incident in Philly asking what we could do to show support to these Rangers fans," explains Grandich. "Having already secured a suite at the February12th game, I decided to invite both Neal and Michael to be my guest with fan favorites Ron and Nick and we've invited several other ex-Rangers," Grandich says.
He notes that he is also glad to see the Rangers organization invite the fans to a game later in February.
"I felt especially motivated because of my involvement with current and retired professional athletes in the New York/New Jersey area and the concerns fans have of attending Philadelphia-based sporting events. I was most pleased to see not only how swiftly the Philadelphia police handled the case, but many Philly fans outraged by the attack," Grandich adds.
Auricchio, a new dad with a 3-month old baby, is a Woodbridge Police officer and Iraq war veteran. He received the Purple Heart for his service in Iraq. As a result of the unprovoked beating the two endured at the hands of Flyers fans as they were waiting for cheesesteaks after the outdoor Winter Classic hockey game at Citizens Park Bank, Auricchio is said to require surgery and the installation of steel plate under his eye to heal a fracture. Both men suffered head injuries, and Janocko also suffered an orthopedic injury.
Grandich contacted the pair through friends in the NJ State Police to invite them to the Rangers vs. Capitals game and both men were thrilled to accept.
"Meeting men listed on the list of All-Time New York Rangers Greats is a thrill for any Ranger fan. Meeting two or more at once in a private suite while watching the game? That's a dream come true. I am happy to be able to make that happen for these two fans," says Grandich.

(Fri, 13 Jan 2012)
|
WASHINGTON, D.C., Jan. 13, 2012 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- The Gingrich Foundation has recognized the Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation, Inc. as its January Charity of the Month. The Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation cares for two of America's most iconic historical sites - Lady Liberty and Ellis Island.
In 1982, both the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island were in need of significant restoration when President Ronald Reagan asked Lee Iacocca, Chairman of the Chrysler Corporation, to lead a fundraising effort dedicated to their preservation.
For three decades, the Foundation has worked together with the National Park Service to restore the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Renovations to the Statue of Liberty have included rebuilding its interior structural support as well as the installation of a Statue of Liberty Museum in the statue's base. At Ellis Island, the Foundation created the Ellis Island Immigration Museum as well as theaters, libraries, exhibits, and an oral history recording studio. The museum has helped educate more than 40 million visitors since it opened in 1990, and its American Family Immigration History Center allows online visitors to search archives of passenger records and ships' manifests.
"You can't know who you are unless you know where you came from," said Stephen A. Briganti, Foundation President. "At ellisisland.org, we help you begin your journey of discovery into your past."
"The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island are at the heart of what it means to be an American," said Callista Gingrich, President of the Gingrich Foundation. "The Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation has been working for 30 years to save important pieces of our history for future generations."
To date, the Foundation has raised over $600 million. Its support continues to come from the private sector and from the generosity of individual Americans.
The Gingrich Foundation is a domestic non-profit corporation founded by Callista and Newt Gingrich to support charitable purposes.

TAVARES, Fla., Jan. 12, 2012 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- If you've always wanted a close-up view of a boat like James Bond's or an exciting ride in a seaplane, cruise over to the Sunnyland Antique Boat Festival on Lake Dora at Wooton Park in Tavares on March 23, 24, and 25, 2012. And rides aboard an old-fashioned steam train will delight the entire family.
"All modes of transportation will be represented this year," Fiest said. "We also plan to have a rail speedster on display, which is a small car that runs on railroad tracks."
The Sunnyland Chapter of the Antique and Classic Boat Society represents all of Florida and is the largest ACBS chapter with more than 640 members. The chapter 's annual festival is considered one of the best in the country, drawing as many as 10,000 visitors from all over the U.S. and Canada.
Several specialty boat clubs will be represented during the festival including Florida's Glasspar and Jersey Skiff clubs. Fiest said many members of the Classic Race Boat Association also plan to stay for the Sunnyland Antique Boat Festival after they complete a racing event on March 17-18 on Lake Dora.

| From Princesses to Pop Tarts, Author Peggy Orenstein Dissects Today's 'Girly-Girl' Trend for Dallas Lecture Audience February 1, 2012, Sponsored by Girls Incorporated of Metropolitan Dallas |
(Wed, 04 Jan 2012)
|
DALLAS, Texas, Jan. 4, 2012 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Girls Incorporated of Metropolitan Dallas will hold its third lecture, "What is a Girly-Girl?," in its 2011-2012 series on Wednesday, February 1, 2012, at 6:30 p.m. in partnership with The Dallas Institute for Humanities and Culture.
Author Peggy Orenstein will discuss today's "girly-girl" culture that influences them from infancy onward: from princesses with pink gowns to spa birthday parties for six-year-olds, to Miley Cyrus to how thirteen-year-olds present themselves on Facebook, it tells a girl that how she looks matters more than who she is.
"We're seeing a 'Kardashianization' of girlhood," says Orenstein, whose examination of the lives of young women began in 1994 with her classic book "Schoolgirls." "It's a worrisome trend for those who want daughters to thrive and become confident, happy women. Formerly neutral toys have become gendered, narrowing a girl's idea about her sexuality, future relationships and academic and professional potential. Girls are being encouraged to embrace this materialistic, image-saturated femininity through an unprecedented amount of marketing targeted at ever-younger ages."

| Education Behind Bars - A Win-Win Strategy for Maximum Security, by Christopher Zoukis |
(Wed, 04 Jan 2012)

PETERSBURG, Va., Jan. 4, 2012 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Why should the American taxpayer care about people who are incarcerated in our prison system? Simple, it is a true cost-saving measure that should be discussed. In "EDUCATION BEHIND BARS" (ISBN: 978-1934597774; Sunbury Press; January, 2012) author Christopher Zoukis makes the case for why all Americans should support education in our prison system. Most Americans do not realize that the United States could save upwards of $60 billion each year by simply educating prisoners.
According to the Journal of Correctional Education, the U.S. incarcerates over 2.3 million persons, a number equal to 5 percent of the country's population. The U.S. accounts for 25 percent of the entire incarcerated population worldwide. Each of these millions of prisoners costs the American taxpayer between $32,000 to $40,000 each year in food and housing.
Of those 2.3 million prisoners, around 800,000 will be released each year and most, that is a staggering 70 percent to 85 percent will return to prison within five years. The exception is prisoners who receive education in prison.
The same study found that a prisoner with an Associate's degree reduces the rate of recidivism and return to prison to 13.7 percent and those with Bachelor's degree to 5.6 percent. Prisoners who have attained a Master's Degree have a 0 percent chance of returning to prison. The Institute for Higher Education Policy calculates the cost of educating one prisoner to be $2,000 to $3,782 per year which is done mostly via distance learning/online. This additional cost is drastically lower than the $40,000 per year costs in simply incarcerating a person.
"EDUCATION BEHIND BARS" is the ultimate source for why Americans should champion the education of prisoners and provides detailed information on how "EDUCATION BEHIND BARS" can be made easily available to prisoners at a reasonable cost.
One fact that should make all Americans think twice: The United States spends $30.1 billion each year to build more prisons. This is money that could be used in more productive ways that benefit the taxpayer.
